Calling all artists and art lovers — the Freeport Business District is celebrating September by the River weekend with a chalk art celebration!

About this event

The Inaugural Freeport Chalk Art Celebration is a FREE, family-friendly 2-day celebration being held at 300 5th Street in conjunction with September by the River. Walk up 5th Street and enjoy the unique art chalk creations celebrating our beautiful Allegheny River. This event is hosted by 1833 Coffee and Tea Co. and sponsored by the Freeport Renaissance Association.

Categories

The celebration will feature THREE categories:

  • Youth category for children ages 10-15 — sidewalk size is 60”x60”; cost is $5; the prize will be a medal/plaque
  • Adult category for participants 16+ — sidewalk size is 80”x80”; cost is $10; the prize will be $100
  • Group category (2+) — sidewalk size is 80″x80″; cost is $15; the prize will be $150

This event will be judged by local art experts.

Theme

The theme is the River! In celebration of September by the River, 1833 Coffee and Tea Co. asks artists to create art inspired by our beautiful river. Permitted materials include chalk, chalk pastels, sponges, and water bottles for blending. No other materials can be used.

Details

The Freeport Renaissance Association will provide sidewalk chalk at 1833 Coffee and Tea Co. for participants to pick up. You are encouraged to BYO chalk pastels, sponges, spray bottles, etc. Youtube has some great tutorials to make your art special!

Artists will be randomly assigned a section of sidewalk in the Freeport Business District. Artwork will begin no sooner than 7 AM on Saturday, September 17. Winners will be announced late Sunday, September 18, at the gazebo in Riverside Park.

If there is a rain cancellation, a refund minus Eventbrite fees (about $2 per ticket) will be given.
